Gastroscopy
An Essential Examination for Your Digestive Health
Gastroscopy is a key medical examination for exploring the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. It helps diagnose, among other conditions, gastroesophageal reflux and its complications, ulcers, and certain cancers. Quick and minimally invasive, it provides a precise view for tailored and effective treatment.
What Is a Gastroscopy?
- To diagnose ulcers or inflammation
- To identify complications of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- To check for tumors or cancerous lesions
- To evaluate anemia and sources of bleeding
- Quick and minimally painful procedure
- Immediate and accurate diagnosis for tailored treatment
- Allows for biopsies or interventions if necessary
More Details on Gastroscopy
The procedure is usually performed under conscious sedation but can also be done without sedation, depending on the patient’s preference.
If you receive sedation, you will not be allowed to drive for the rest of the day. Make sure someone can accompany you home.
- The procedure, including the physician’s evaluation and the gastroscopy, lasts approximately 30 minutes
- After the procedure, you will remain in the recovery room for about 30 minutes.
Gastroscopy is generally a very safe procedure. As with any medical intervention, side effects can occur, such as bleeding or, very rarely, perforation. However, these complications are extremely rare, occurring in less than 0.01% of cases.

It is rare to find a doctor who truly listens and genuinely cares about their patients, but Dr. Coussa is exactly that. He is incredibly patient and takes the time to answer all of my questions. After years of struggling with digestive issues and gastroesophageal reflux, I finally found relief thanks to him.
